U.S. Patent For Litéra’s Change-Pro®

U.S. Patent For Litéra’s Change-Pro®

05.10.2011

The methodology behind Change-Pro, Litéra’s flagship product, has been awarded U.S. Patent number 7,818,660.

McLeansville, N.C.—MAY 10, 2011—The methodology behind Change-Pro, Litéra’s flagship product, has been awarded U.S. Patent number 7,818,660. First released in 2004, Change-Pro promises unsurpassed content confidence and true document accuracy and reliability by enabling users to compare all MS Office and PDF documents down to every letter, table, and embedded objects such as Excel, Visio and Chemdraw, as well as images, precisely to a single pixel across the document revision process

Change-Pro is revolutionary because there’s no other product on the market that can compare the total document with any and all embedded OLE objects granularly,” said inventor Deepak Massand, Litéra’s CEO.

Litéra's Change-Pro has become a vital component of our document management processes,” said Steve Agnoli, chief information officer of K&L Gates, a global law firm with nearly 2,000 lawyers on three continents. “Because it compares critical documents in their entirety, we can better assure content accuracy and reliability and reduce the risk of costly errors. We are very pleased with Change-Pro's functionality and ease-of-use.”

Change-Pro works by comparing a Word, PowerPoint or Excel original document to a modified document, including changes to embedded objects (OLE) produced by Word, Excel, Visio, ChemDraw and other programs, as well as JPG, TIFF, BMP and GIF images. When using Change-Pro, alterations to embedded objects and images are “redlined” (not just highlighted) on the object or image itself, eliminating the need for manual comparison. Change-Pro can also compare PDF documents in their native format, including scanned PDF documents with the optional Litéra OCR Server.

In addition to Change-Pro, Litéra’s family of comparison products includes Change-Pro for Excel, the only software solution that reveals every change made to spreadsheets—including values, formulas and row and column edits—while maintaining the layout and all other aspects of the original document, and Change-Pro for PowerPoint, which enables the comparison of changes to PowerPoint presentations.

Metadact®e Newly Patented Solution from Litéra®, Removes Confidential Data Sent from Smartphones and Webmail

Metadact®e Newly Patented Solution from Litéra®, Removes Confidential Data Sent from Smartphones and Webmail

05.10.2011

Litéra has been awarded U.S. patent 7,895,276 for a server-based solution for removing potentially sensitive metadata.

McLeansville, N.C.—MAY 10, 2011— Litéra has been awarded U.S. patent 7,895,276 for a server-based solution for removing potentially sensitive metadata—the descriptive, often confidential information attached to a file providing its authorship, the date and time of its creation, edits and other details—from email attachments sent via any email client including webmail and smartphones. This patent was filed in conjunction with ground-breaking research related to the development of Litéra’s new server-based metadata management product,Metadacte. The solution covers cloud-based server metadata cleaning as well. Litéra also markets Metadact, a desktop-based metadata cleansing solution.

With Metadacte it’s easy to enforce enterprise policies to clean confidential and potentially damaging data from e-mail attachments even if they’re sent from a smart phone or via webmail,” said Deepak Massand, Litéra’s CEO and the inventor of the new server-based solution. “In today’s fast paced business world, it’s more important than ever to protect your organization’s reputation and maintain confidentiality and control on a corporate level.”

Metadacte removes metadata from all document formats and email attachments including Microsoft Office, PDF, image and ZIP files sent via Outlook and other email programs. Corporate administrators can define a centralized cleaning policy that can be implemented on a company-wide level or individual users can be given permission to personally control select settings. For example, the enhanced flexibility and functionality of Metadacte enables users to selectively remove tracked changes in Word documents, hidden cells in spreadsheets and/or speaker’s notes from PowerPoint presentations. Metadacte provides detailed logs allowing administrators to review a comprehensive list of detected and removed metadata by sender, date and additional variables.

According to the Association for Business Communication, in a survey of 100,000 Word documents collected from various websites, all 100,000 documents contained hidden metadata including general, and specific, personal information such as social security numbers and the internal network the document traveled.

Litéra® Receives Patent for Technology That Enables Simultaneous, Real-Time Collaboration on Electronic Documents

Litéra® Receives Patent for Technology That Enables Simultaneous, Real-Time Collaboration on Electronic Documents

05.10.2011

Litéra has been awarded U.S. Patent Number 7,818,678 for a technology innovation that enables large groups to collaborate in real-time on electronic documents created in Microsoft Word and other major document processing systems.

McLeansville, N.C.—MAY 10, 2011—Litéra has been awarded U.S. Patent Number 7,818,678 for a technology innovation that enables large groups to collaborate in real-time on electronic documents created in Microsoft Word and other major document processing systems. This new methodology incorporates reviewer feedback into a database that can be displayed simultaneously in one master document—available to select users or all contributors in real-time—enabling participants to view comments and edits as they are made or to audit the history.

This patent was filed in conjunction with ground-breaking research and development related to Litéra IDS®, the company’s real-time collaboration solution. “This patent empowers users to harness an open collaboration environment in which authors in various locations can share input on a single live document. Users will no longer have to review multiple redlined versions of shared input to create one document. Instead, the technology supporting this new patent incorporates all feedback into one master document, open for collective view in real time,” said Deepak Massand, its inventor and Litéra’s CEO.

Massand added that this technology, unlike other applications available today, allows for multiple users to collaborate synchronously on a single document and in real-time rather than using paper copies or outdated and confusing workflow systems. “Having been through the frustrations of dealing with disparate versions of documents from multiple reviewers or sequential over-writing by other methods, my goal was to fix this broken, time consuming process and take it to the next level.”

Conventional document collaboration systems involve one individual—typically the author—receiving a series of documents with numerous, often conflicting, comments and edits. That person would then need to incorporate the changes into one global document, a tedious process that inhibits simultaneous review and quality collaboration. Litéra’s new technology incorporates all reviewer feedback into the master document in real time, enabling participants to view comments and edits as they are made. According to Massand, this process supports the best aspects of teamwork and collaboration, promotes the sharing of ideas and helps to improve accuracy, openness and productivity.

The technology provides an unlimited number of users with the ability to post and review input and feedback. The author retains control of all changes and can review all comments side-by-side and in context, without creating multiple documents. Because some projects require the utmost security, access controls ensure only authorized individuals can view documents. Litera’s technology also permits users access to a full history of all changes, sorted by person, date, topic and other criteria. E-mail notifications inform potential contributors of new documents for review and can be set for single or multiple reminders.

Massand said he is exploring every possibility the patent presents including the launch of Litera IDS as well as licensing inquiries from major players. “In this age of cloud computing, by employing this solution,” he said, “we can give users rich functionality, reduce stress and increase quality, speed and productivity across the board.”
